Convoy of SP candidate Abhay Singh attacked at Goshainganj
On Friday, a convoy carrying Samajwadi Party leader Abhay Singh was allegedly stoned and fired upon in Uttar Pradesh's Ayodhya district. Abhay Singh is a former MLA who is running for the SP in Ayodhya's Goshainganj assembly constituency. In the third phase of the UP assembly election, he will face BJP nominee Aarti Tiwari, the wife of former BJP MLA Indra Pratap Tiwari.
When the incident occurred in the Meopur market area under Maharajganj police station, Abhay Singh's caravan was on its way from Uniyar to Jahna market.
Although no one was hurt in the attack, one of Abhay Singh's convoy's cars was heavily damaged.
At Maharajganj police station, a FIR has been filed. Vikas Singh has been named as the perpetrator of the attack.
"The police is in collusion with the opponents. The Election Commission has no standing. While I was returning from campaigning, my convoy was fired upon in Nev Kabirpur. I'm completely safe. I request my workers to cooperate in maintaining the peace and law and order. Our opponents know they have lost the elections which is why they don't want the poll to be held," while talking to Facebook Abhay Singh said.
On February 20, 59 assembly constituencies in the 16 districts of Auriyya, Etah, Etawah, Farukkhabad, Firozabad, Hamirpur, Hathras, Jalaun, Jhansi, Kannauj, Kanpur Dehat, Kanpur Nagar, Kasganj, Lalitpur, Mahoba, and Mainpuri will vote in phase three of the Uttar Pradesh election.
This time, the elections for the 403 assembly members will be held in seven parts. The first two waves of voting were placed on February 10 and 14. On March 10, the election results will be announced.
